Excuse me if this post is misleading… There is no solution on how to do this yet apparently, does anybody know?
The PURPOSE to root my droid2 running 2.3.4 with whatever version was to get some “free internet” using a wireless hotspot.
Well I found a solution that is pretty kickass, two solutions and some problems.. Onward.
Solution 1
Yes, an android app that does not require root and will still let me do a ” wireless tether” or wifi hotspot. Did I mention it was FREE and totally works like a charm?
Unfortunately I cannot seem to figure out why Ubuntu 11.10 wont connect to the hot-spot. Tried both infrastructure and ad-hoc without success before recognizing the imminent need to f’n-internets!@
Solution 2
At th time of this posting it has a free 14 day FULLY FUNCTIONAL TRIAL so get it, use it to surf the internet for the free version if you like, else it costs only $4.99.
NO INTERNET?
Browse to Clockworkmod.com on your phone, install the app, download the corresponding program for your operating system. Extract and run! In Ubuntu 11.10 type
cd /Tether/
sudo linux/run.sh
Plug your phone and and your on the net!
Yes you can successfully run both Foxfi and ClockworkMod simutaniously if you need to, it works fine.
If your phone gets HOT from just using it as an Internet slave hot-spot try playing Pandora, it seems to cool down the battery.
tether stops working and this is the last line in the terminal…
linux/run.sh: line 38: 11923 Segmentation fault $NODE/node tuntap.js
